Summary:

South Orange County Wastewater Authority’s mission is to collect, treat, beneficially reuse and dispose of wastewater in a manner that protects and respects the environment, maintains the public’s health, and meets local, state and federal regulations.

SOCWA was created on July 1, 2001 to facilitate and manage the collection, transmission, treatment and disposal of wastewater for more than 500,000 homes and businesses across South Orange County. SOCWA also manages production of recycled water for irrigation and commercial uses, which saves approximately 1.6 billion gallons of domestic water each year that otherwise would be used for those purposes, which is equivalent to 16,259 acre feet of water.

SOCWA’s objective with this project is to upgrade the SCADA hardware and software at two (2) of their wastewater treatment plants. As part of the upgraded and modernization in combatting aging hardware, they also wanted to bolster their cybersecurity posture.

Key Project Elements:

  • Completed two (2) SCADA plant upgrades in less than 5 months
  • Configured next-generation networking equipment
  • Implemented NIST 800.82 & ISA 62443 guidelines meeting industry best practices
  • Fully virtualized system utilizing Microsoft Hyper-V
  • Setup & configuration of DMZ for remote access & Active Directory Services
  • Automatic scheduled virtual machine backups to network storage (NAS)device
  • Upgraded Rockwell Factory Talk View/Historian, Win911, & Kepware
  • Provided SOCWA with weekly schedule updates & progress
  • Internal QA/QC of fully developed hardware & software
  • Onsite system installation & commissioning
  • Replaced server & networking equipment with modern software & hardware

Testimonials

AIC exceeded our expectations, completing the project in only five months. The project manager’s communication was exceptional, keeping us informed throughout.Their submission packages were early and meticulously detailed, and the startup and commissioning team was professional and efficient. Most impressively, the SCADA cutover was flawless, with zero downtime for both facilities.AIC has truly set the bar for excellence in system integration, and we look forward to working with them again in the future.”
